Underestimated but Perfect Sex Pose

All acrobatic sex poses have the same thing in common – you will try them only once. The best sex poses are comfortable, simple and well supported, which is why the vast majority of everyone’s sex life consists of either missionary variants, cowgirl variants or common doggy style. All else is only fun for a short time, and can become uncomfortable. Orgasm can also be a dangerous animal you don’t want to hunt on unfamiliar terrain.

The Closed Missionary is one of the most simple and familiar positions, but it is often overlooked or undervalued. (As a dedicated yogi, that name is a favorite).

Completely overlooked

Nirvana is a variant of the world’s most common Missionary position in which a couple transitions from a regular one so that the woman brings her thighs together and her partner spreads his legs on the outside.

I don’t remember the first time I used it with my now wife, but we soon realized the many benefits the pose brings so it quickly became a standard part of our lovemaking repertoire. It is so simple that I believe every heterosexual couple has practiced it for years.

Surprised, I found that few other couples knew the pose. Some even struggled to grasp it without me drawing it and marking male or female partners. My surprise was that even the illustrated Kama Sutra did not mention it. It describes the same pose, from behind, and a variety of useless poses.

The Great Injustice

The reason for this sexual injustice is simple – since it is next to impossible to insert a penis while a female has her legs closed, Nirvana is a pose that requires transition from the regular Missionary. This eliminates couples that do not switch poses during intercourse as well as those that just don’t like Missionary at all. But if you don’t practice this pose, you are really missing out on its long list of benefits.

4 x 4 All Terrain Pose

Nirvana’s four grounding points are what I love about it as a guy. I am able to control the angle, depth, pace, and speed of penetration with incredible ease and freedom. If you’re athletic and strong, you can hold the position on your fours for quite a while without feeling any discomfort.

You can also wrap your arms around your partner to make it more intimate, if you’re not as fit or want to spend time with your partner. You can also use it on more difficult surfaces such as Missionary, which tend to cause knee pain. Since you can transfer all your weight to your limbs and away from your partner’s body, it allows her to freely move her pelvis as she desires and suggest the desired rhythm of thrusts.

It hits all the right places

The pose is not designed to allow deep penetration. However, this pose can make a big difference for couples who struggle with coital orgasm. If the male partner changes the mode of penetration from linear in-out movement to circular motion of the pelvis, it will provide intense stimulation of his partner’s G-spot (although it does require at least a medium level of core strength and endurance).

To increase clitoral stimulation, one can move his body slightly upwards until the shaft creates friction on the clitoris. Although the clitoris can be overexposed, it is easy to adjust the pressure and the penis is lubricated each time it enters the uterus. If the female still has trouble achieving orgasm, she also has the oldest trick in the book at her disposal – holding her leg muscles contracted.

Uses Different Sizes

Nirvana offers additional benefits for partners with genital compatibility problems. The best part about Nirvana is that it works in both directions. Unlike many poses in which a large penis tends to cause pain and discomfort by going too deep too fast and hitting the cervix and other sensitive structures, in Nirvana this won’t be an issue since penetration is not too deep and the angle is controllable.

If the size difference is in the opposite direction, the female partner may be able to squeeze her thighs together and add pressure to the vaginal and penis walls.

Potential Downsides

There are some downsides to this pose, if any. With practice, patience, and some practice, it is possible to get it back in. The man must manipulate the angle of penetration slightly while the woman must stretch her legs a bit.

Another problem is that the pose feels too good for a man to not blow his load too soon if he has trouble controlling his ejaculation. I’ve always found that the best way to prevent that outcome is to prepare both partners with long and thorough foreplay prior to any penetrative sex.
